The Lyngdorf Audio CD-2 is a pure-audio CD player engineered for exceptional sonic performance. Built around a dedicated audio drive and a high-quality Wolfson WM8740 D/A stage, it delivers low noise, precise clocking, and balanced analog outputs for audiophile systems.
Description
Developed from Lyngdorf Audio’s experience with award-winning digital amplifiers and CD players, the CD-2 is designed specifically as a pure-audio CD transport and player. Unlike multi-format drives (which are typically video-based and re-sample audio to video clocks), the CD-2 uses a pure audio drive and carefully controlled clocking and grounding to avoid unnecessary resampling and noise.
Electrical design
The CD-2 uses a Lyngdorf-designed switch-mode power supply that is tightly regulated, filtered and decoupled to provide low noise, low impedance power to separate analog and digital circuits. Multiple secondary windings on the transformer keep the analog and digital supplies isolated, minimizing digital noise in the analog path. The chassis and back panel are electrically conductive and the grounding scheme is optimized to reduce radiation and susceptibility to external noise.
D/A converter and analog stage
The D/A stage is centered on the Wolfson WM8740 high-performance DAC chip. This is combined with a balanced analog output stage and premium audiophile op-amps to produce outstanding sonic clarity and musicality, with both single-ended (RCA) and fully balanced (XLR) outputs for integration into high-end systems.
